Custom Calligraphy Wedding Book

I reached out to Maryanne at The Abbey Studio to help me create a gift for a few friends of mine. I wanted to have their entire wedding ceremony made into a book for them to have as a 1 year wedding anniversary gift. Maryanne was extremely patient with me, as it took some time for me to make decisions and gather all of the pieces of literature and artwork I wanted to include. Her vision and advice made the process extremely seamless and fun. She worked quickly and I was beyond impressed with the finished product. I gave the book to the happy couple yesterday and they were completely blown away. Recently Maryanne created a piece that was absolutely beautiful and very unique. I brought in a quote and asked Maryanne to come up with some sort of memorial for a mother that had lost her son to drugs, a piece she could hold, and read again and again as she worked thru the loss of her son. Impressed by the quality of the instruction

I’ve taken a number of classes at The Abbey Studio with Maryanne Grebenstein over the years, and I’ve always been impressed by the quality of the instruction and the classes. My previous experience had mostly been in pointed pen, so I thought that Section I of the Calligraphy Intensive held online would be an excellent opportunity to learn a number of broad-edged hands in a few short weeks. Section I exceeded my expectations, allowing me to practice under Maryanne’s expert guidance. The primary advantage of the online format is being able to closely observe each pen stroke during demonstrations. In addition, the recordings are available for one week after their respective classes and act as a valuable reference for those who cannot attend a class. Maryanne always offers constructive criticism, and I enjoyed a lovely camaraderie with my other classmates during the weeks we spent together. The homework assignments were thoughtfully planned by Maryanne and built on prior lessons. My ability to see the subtleties of different letter forms improved a good deal during the class, and I am pleased with the progress that I have made with my broad-edged pen skills. Be prepared to spend at least a few hours a week on practice and on homework assignments to get the most out of the class. My only regret is not signing up for Section II right away, but I will certainly plan to take it in the future in addition to the many other wonderful classes offered by The Abbey Studio.

I highly recommend Calligraphy Intensive 1-2

I highly recommend Calligraphy Intensive 1-2 with Maryanne.  The series is ideal for beginners and not-so-beginners who want to build a solid foundation in calligraphy and have great fun while developing such essential skills as making guidelines efficiently, using a light box in design and layout, and incorporating color and decorated capitals into work.  I also loved copying historical manuscripts to learn and improve six lettering hands.  Maryanne is an excellent teacher — and over Zoom! — who will help you take your calligraphy to the next level.
